Garden Creek Recreation Site (Not my own photos)

Basic view of campground and area

The campground is 15 miles off of highway 93 on Trail Creek Road, north of MacKay, Idaho.  The surrounding terrain is desert.  The campground should be fairly green still in August with all of the rainfall this year.  It is a free site due to it's limited facilites, with a vault toilet and some fire rings and tables.  Drinking water is not available but can be accessed from nearby campgrounds.  The drive into MacKay is about 40 minutes.

NOTE: All time estimates in this blog are by car.

One campsite

Some of the campsites are in the trees.  I think it will be important to get cozy and share the shade for tents.

Another campsite

View of the river next to the campground

We may still be able to float this river close to camp in August, due to increased snow and rainfall.  If not, the river is deeper downstream about 1/2 hour.  Idaho and Montana have dangerous river levels at this time.

Fishing (floating?) area 20 minutes downstream

As can be seen here, the views are spectacular depending on what part of the valley you are in.

Swimming is always a big part of Reynoso family campouts.  This swim hole is about 5 minutes away, across from the Twin Bridges Airport.  I will provide a detailed map on how to get here.  There are likely other great places to swim along the river, but this is the only one that I am sure of.

Here are a few more pictures taken from the surrounding areas and the estimated time required to get where the photos were taken:

Burnt Creek (2 minutes downstream)

East Fork Big Lost Narrows(10 minutes)
Copper Basin from Wildhorse Creek Road  (17 minutes)

Devil's bedstead from North Fork Big Lost River Road (25 minutes)
Big Lost River (30 minutes downstream)
Summit Creek along Trail Creek Road (27 minutes)
Kane Creek up Kane Creek Road (25 minutes)
Pioneer Mountains up Wildhorse Creek Canyon (35 minutes)
Wildhorse Lookout (I have no idea how long it would take to get here - probably 25 min by car and 2 hours hiking) But wouldn't it be a great hike!
